Katherine Nicholls

Founder

Together with the late Rangi Nicholls, Katherine founded the business in 1986. Inheriting his love of the film industry, Katherine went on to build a successful business in the difficult environment of film.

Determination and tenacity has helped see the company’s development as a well respected entity in the public event arena.

Karl Christian

Managing Director

Karl joined Who Dares in 1999 as full time security guard on Moulin Rouge. For the next couple years, Karl enjoyed working in the film industry on Kangaroo Jack and many TV series. In 2003 he was Traffic Manager on Superman Returns and made his mark with Transport for NSW, City of Sydney and The Department of Premier and Cabinet, which led the way into the events industry.

Karl holds an MEEA approved Diploma in Safety, a Post Graduate Certificate in Safety Science (UNSW) and is a Certified OHS Practitioner with the Australian Institute of Health and Safety. He also holds a Master of Business Law (UNSW) is currently completing a Bachelor of Law (UTS).

Karl is interested in social justice having done a significant amount of volunteer work at the Aboriginal Legal Service Redfern office and intends to work at ALS part time once qualified.

Karl continues to manage the Who Dares team particularly in the area of employment law, company compliance, business planning and strategies.

Jason Medina

Accounts Manager

Jason has had 20 years experience in IT and 15 years experience in accounts, making him a very reliable and professional accounts manager.

Together with great customer service and organisational skills we are very proud to have him as one of the Who Dares team.

Glenn Armstrong

General Manager

With over 15 years’ experience at Who Dares, Glenn is responsible for coordinating our daily operational activities including logistics, overseeing event and project portfolios, monitoring service levels, managing key staff and business sales.

Glenn has ensured traffic safety on high-profile events such as Sydney World Pride, many Hollywood blockbusters including The Fall Guy, dozens of TV Series such as NCIS:Sydney, and thousands of television commercials.

He collaborates with people of all levels in a number of industries, possessing an excellent commercial approach to solving problems and developing business processes.

Glenn has proven people management skills, with the ability to manage performance and motivate staff on an individual and team level.

Greg Mooney

Operations Manager- Major Events

For 25 years Greg has been the SES Deputy Regional Manager for Sydney North.

This very public and essential role in our community is indicative of Greg’s outstanding leadership and organizational abilities, whether reacting to State emergencies, managing major road events such as the National Marathon or directing city traffic around significant film sets like Superman Returns.

Elizabeth Long

Bookings Manager

Elizabeth is responsible for filling each of our traffic control and barricading shifts with the right person for the job.

In order to wrangle hundreds of staff across dozens of projects every week, she’s become a master of multi-tasking and dealing with last-minute changes.

With her 20+ years of experience, Elizabeth also runs our Safety & Stunt agency, where her bright personality and clear communication style is a major asset.

Tim Emslie

Senior Events Manager

Tim has over 13 years’ experience in a variety of roles within the events industry. Prior to working at Who Dares he was involved in the management of several mass participation events including the Ride to Conquer Cancer, Weekend to End Women’s Cancers and Oxfam Trailwalker.

Tim joined the Who Dares team in 2017. In addition to traffic planning, he’s been responsible for a wide variety of operational tasks within the business, and specialises in HVM diagrams, installation and removal.

Tim’s highlights at Who Dares include being our project lead on iconic events Vivid Sydney and the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and Hollywood blockbusters Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Anthony Russell

Event Traffic Manager

Anthony has extensive experience in the Sydney event and entertainment industries.

Prior to working at Who Dares, he was involved in the management of large events such as the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras and Vivid Sydney, venues such as the Sydney Opera House, and multiple film & TV safety projects.

He joined us in 2022 and has since gained substantial experience in traffic management planning & implementation, Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM), and leading traffic & pedestrian control teams in the field, particularly for community and cultural events.

Margarita Gianna

Recruitment & Training

Margarita has worked with Who Dares since 2022, both in the field as a traffic team leader, and in the office as our recruitment and training officer.

She has led traffic control teams on large events such as Vivid, large movies such as Play Dirty, and TV shows such as Ten Pound Poms.

Margarita has studied business and teaching at university and brings with her a friendly and patient communication style.
